Upon successful completion of all required coursework and a minimum of 280 hours of supervised work placement in a regulated early childhood education and care service, students will be awarded the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Students must also obtain a Working with Children Card prior to commencing practical placement.
Students must have English proficiency as guided by Macallan College's English Proficiency Policy and Procedures. This includes an IELTS Test overall score of 6.0 (or equivalent) with no individual section score less than 5.5. Additionally, a pre-entry Oxford English online test result of no less than B2.2 with a minimum score of 71 is required. All applicants from AL3 countries must sit an IELTS test. A Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test must also be completed by every student at the commencement of the course during orientation.
Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, or a CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Students must also be a minimum of 18 years of age and have completed Year 10 or equivalent.
After completing the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, you may be eligible for roles such as Lead Educator / Room Leader, Early Childhood Educator, Kindergarten or Preschool Assistant, Family Day Care Coordinator, and Educational Leader (with experience). With further education, individuals could also progress to roles such as Centre Manager or pursue a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).
The course duration is 52 weeks. The qualification consists of 15 units in total — 12 core units and 3 elective units — and requires successful completion of all coursework along with a minimum of 280 hours of supervised work placement in a regulated early childhood education and care service.
