About This Course

Achieve your dream of becoming a teacher – even if you missed selection for the Bachelor of Education. This education course prepares you to enter the second year of a teaching degree. This teaching program has been designed for students who didn’t meet the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Education through the VTAC (or direct) selection process. This Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) accredited education pathway course will help you build the skills needed for a career in education.

If you continue to the Bachelor of Education (P-12) , you’ll be job-ready before you graduate – thanks to your extensive experience teaching in a classroom. Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Domestic students:

Applicants with recent secondary education: Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English.
Applicants with vocational education & training (VET/TAFE) study: Certificate IV in Liberal Arts (or equivalent). OR Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (or equivalent)
Applicants with work & life experience: Applicants with relevant work, education and/or community experience will be considered for admission to the course.

International students:

Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent). PLUS IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score of 6.0 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).
International students from non-English speaking countries are required to demonstrate a minimum IELTS of 6.0 overall (with no score below 6.0 in any of the four skills areas on entry to the program.

How many times a year can I start the Diploma of Education Studies at Victoria University?

Thanks to the VU Block Model, where you study subjects in four-week 'blocks', there are five opportunities across the year to start your course.

Can I apply for credit for previous study towards the Diploma of Education Studies?

You can apply for credit for any relevant units you have completed in your current or previous course(s). To apply, you will need to supply academic transcripts and unit descriptions. Any documents in another language will need to be translated and certified.

Can I defer my start date for the Diploma of Education Studies?

Domestic students in undergraduate or postgraduate courses, including higher-education diplomas, can defer studying for work, travel or personal reasons for a maximum of 12 months, as long as they do this before enrolling.
