Stage 2 core unit. Introduction to programming for science and data science students, covering coding, data analytics and computational science.
Fundamentals of Professional Engineering Practice
Stage 2 core unit. Develops knowledge and skills to analyse successful and unsuccessful engineering projects, including historical, ethical, health and safety, social, risk management and environmental determinants.
Engineering Foundations: Principles, Design and Communications
Stage 2 core unit. Covers the engineering design and tendering process, defining problems, conceptual designs, tender documents, prototyping, refining designs and determining specifications.
Calculus for Engineers
Stage 2 core unit. Builds on functions and calculus, covering differentiation, integration techniques, volume, length, surface area, and complex numbers. Requires WACE Mathematics Methods or equivalent.
Engineering Mechanics
Stage 2 core unit. Covers Newton's Laws, forces, equilibrium, trusses, stress and strain, kinematics, kinetics, hydrostatics and fluid mechanics.
Electrical Systems
Stage 2 core unit. Covers DC and AC circuits, electro-mechanics, energy conversion, electronics, instrumentation and control.
Linear Algebra and Statistics for Engineers
Stage 2 core unit. Covers vectors, lines, planes, matrices, systems of linear equations, descriptive and inferential statistics.
Resources, Processes and Materials Engineering
Stage 2 core unit. Introduces the whole-of-life cycle of resources, material selection, material and energy balances, and case studies across engineering disciplines.

The Diploma of Engineering leads to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Curtin University.
Available majors include Chemical Engineering, Civil and Construction Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Software Systems Engineering.
The Diploma of Engineering is delivered in two stages. Stage 1 takes 2-3 Trimesters (8-12 months) and Stage 2 also takes 2-3 Trimesters (8-12 months), with intake dates in February, June, and October for both stages (noting that Stage 2 February, June, October intakes exclude the Metallurgical Engineering and Civil & Construction Engineering majors).
Based on the Semester 1, 2026 intake data, the highest ATAR rank to receive an offer was 85.10, the median rank was 66.11, and the lowest rank to receive an offer was 49.50. All students must also meet academic and English entry requirements applicable to their chosen course.
The Diploma of Engineering is delivered at the Curtin Bentley campus. Students can view campus facilities on the Curtin College website.
