Professional Communication
Provides the opportunity to explore academic and professional skills required in educational institutions and workplaces, including critical thinking, project and time management, ethics and safety, use of formal language, presenting and supporting arguments, interpreting visual data, and writing reports.
Materials Science and Engineering
Introduces the fundamentals of engineering materials and their practical applications in engineering and modern society. Describes the properties, structure, processing, and selection of materials for a wide range of industrial applications, including social, economic, and environmental aspects.
Foundations of Mathematics
Offers opportunities to acquire essential knowledge and skills in key areas of mathematics, including algebra, functions, calculus, and trigonometry. Designed for students who have not yet achieved a satisfactory level of proficiency in a calculus-based mathematics course at the high school level.
Computing for Engineers
An introductory programming course designed to help students understand the important role of programming languages in solving engineering problems, including MATLAB, C++, and Excel.
Mathematics A
Provides an opportunity to acquire essential knowledge and skills in mathematics, encompassing areas such as algebra, calculus, and trigonometry. Establishes a strong foundation for further studies and equips students with mathematical understanding necessary for advanced exploration of engineering studies.

Consists of two major fields in mathematics: Advanced calculus and linear algebra.
Principles of Electric Circuits
Covers fundamental topics in electric circuit analysis, including Ohm's and Kirchhoff's Laws, Handy Circuit Analysis, Basic Capacitor and Inductor Circuits, and Transformers, Semiconductors, and Photovoltaics. Includes six practical sessions.
Physics
Introduces fundamental topics in physics essential for engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering, covering principles of motion, energy, oscillation, mechanical waves, heat, fluid principles, optics, and basics of electric circuits.

Common Questions
Successful completion of the SIBT Diploma of Engineering allows you to enter the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering at Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus with 8 units of credit. Eligible programs include Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical) and Bachelor of Engineering Science (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical). Graduates must achieve an overall average of 50% across all units attempted to gain entry; students who do not achieve this will be considered on an individual basis.
For 2026, Australian course fees are A$27,200 and international course fees are A$40,500, plus a one-off non-tuition enrolment fee of A$225.
Yes. You will be required to undertake a Maths Readiness Test prior to finalising enrolment. The Readiness Test will determine if you need to take an additional maths support program and which maths unit you will study in Session 1 — either MATH099 Foundations of Mathematics or MATH100 Mathematics A — to ensure academic success and allow you to progress easily through your studies.
The Diploma of Engineering can be completed in either 8 or 12 months (corresponding to two or three sessions). Intakes are offered in March, July, and October each year. The CRICOS codes are 068335D for the 8-month duration and 068336C for the 12-month duration.
Graduates of the Diploma of Engineering will be qualified to gain entry level engineering technician positions using the practical and communication skills acquired whilst studying at SIBT. Employment and career paths include manufacturing, project and technology management, sales/service maintenance of technical equipment, energy conservation, electronics, sustainability, construction, water, electricity and infrastructure. According to Graduate Careers Australia, the average national graduate starting salary in engineering is A$60,000.
