Diploma of Engineering - Technical

MEM50222 Diploma of Engineering – Technical (CRICOS 112009D) defines the skills and knowledge required of an engineering technician within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries. It is Baxter Institute's higher-level engineering qualification and sits above the Certificate IV in Engineering as a direct progression.

The skills associated with the qualification apply across a wide range of technical engineering discipline areas, including mechanical, mechatronics, manufacturing, maintenance, heating ventilation and air-conditioning, engineering drafting, and refrigeration and air conditioning in manufacturing, engineering and related industries. The qualification gives students the opportunity to develop theoretical knowledge and technical skills either in a specific discipline area or across a broad field of technical work and learning. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Five core units establish the technician's foundation: applying mathematical techniques in a manufacturing engineering or related environment, organising and communicating information, interacting with computing technology, participating in environmentally sustainable work practices, and managing self in the engineering environment. The elective group is drafting- and design-heavy, covering the selection of common engineering materials, basic engineering detail drawings, CAD systems for basic drawing elements, 3D solid models, surface modelling, 3D model assemblies, basic engineering design concepts, mechanical and mechatronics engineering design drafting, advanced engineering detail drafting, reading and interpreting technical engineering drawings, electrical schematic drawings, computations and basic penetrant testing.

Baxter delivers the diploma over 52 weeks including holidays, face-to-face, at 72-92 Langford Street, North Melbourne VIC 3051. Graduates can progress to higher education qualifications.
