Film Mechanics Lab
(Trimester 1 - Learn) Begin the Diploma of Film at AIT by starting with a practical subject to gain a basic overview of the stages involved in film production. You will engage in filmmaking practice at an introductory level, and be given a creative project to write, produce and edit a short film, and present it for review while you work individually or as part of a team building exercise.
Screen Evolution
(Trimester 1 - Learn) Immerse yourself in film and digital language through an exploration of the fundamental themes, concepts and principles that apply to film and animation. You will focus on film history, genre, style, mood and context, and will also learn about foundational animation techniques, like stop motion and illustration with movement.
Visual Storytelling
(Trimester 1 - Learn) Apply visual storytelling design and composition methods such as scriptwriting, drawing, storyboard, animatic and camera composition conventions to visualise and prepare stories for production. Scene structures and character development are introduced and you will look at the application of planning principles to several forms of media such as animation and film.
Image Design
(Trimester 2 - Refine) Gain a solid foundation and practical experience in the technical tools and design skills needed to create and manipulate digital images. You will be introduced to image editing software and then move on to develop moving image editing techniques, exploring and applying theories of film editing. The production processes include layering and transparencies, title design, timing and rhythm in editing, colour correction & colour grading, and applying masks and filters to images.
Art of Cinematography
(Trimester 2 - Refine) Camera operation, lighting designs and focus form the nucleus of this subject while learning complex media productions. You will learn how to set up and shoot scenes to achieve optimal visual results.
Screenwriting
(Trimester 2 - Refine) You will be introduced to script and screenwriting for film and animation, an essential skill to learn for media production services. During the subject, you will explore the theories and principles of narrative construction and expand the ability to produce sequential art, develop characters, subtext, scenes and screenplays.
Immersive Film Experience 1
(Trimester 3 - Produce) We lead you through a full film production cycle as you apply the filmmaking skills you have acquired in earlier subjects. You will research and analyse a topic or cause and represent that area of interest through a documentary film. A variety of causes for documentary subject matter will be explored as you engage with society and participate in cultural debate, and you will adopt a mode of documentary, in a specific style, to present your case.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
