Course Overview
class="m-0 section-title__container anchorname" id="overview"> Overview Are you ready to explore the world of graphic design and develop creative and critical thinking for design? You will explore the design process and a range of production methods using industry standard software, with underpinning technical skills and knowledge. As a graphic designer, your role may include; generating branding solutions for products, services and businesses producing design content suitable for print, digital and online applications and media working to a brief, conducting market research analysis, applying this to a design solution to be presented to a client This diploma provides you with a strong technical focus that develops your expertise in digital design, print production and typography, along with following a creative process to generate design concepts and ideas to produce a resolved design outcome. You will explore many forms of visual and graphic design, including illustration, digital design, typography, calligraphy and lettering, packaging design, publications, advertising, promotional materials and on-line content creation. You’ll become experienced in the use of industry standard software including Abode InDesign, llustrator and Photoshop.

Applicants need to only complete the section most relevant to their qualification(s) and experience. RMIT previous studies If you have successfully completed, or are due to complete at the end of the current RMIT semester, one of the following RMIT University courses, you must submit your selection task so that your eligibility and application will be assessed based on the approved RMIT pathway course: C4441 Certificate IV in Design C4414 Certificate IV in Design Folio Provide three (3) different pieces of your original graphic design work. Each piece must have a resolved outcome and demonstrate your design skills. One piece must include the use of typography and layout and demonstrated use of industry design software. You must include one page of process work for each piece, along with a short description explaining the idea, target audience, and design choices. Recommended for inclusion: A variety of original design concepts and outcomes 2D or 3D design, typography, and industry software use such as Adobe CC suite or similar Freehand or digital drawings/illustrations Creative use of design elements like colour, texture, and composition. Submission instructions Upload your folio as a single PDF (maximum size 10MB). Please ensure to include the page number, and your full name and application number on each page. The Diploma of Graphic Design is taught on campus at RMIT University's Brunswick location in Victoria, Australia.
This course requires a selection task as part of the application process. For Semester 2, 2026, direct applicants must submit their selection task by 10 July 2026. VTAC applicants have a cut-off date of 3 August 2026. For Semester 1, 2027, orientation week is 1–5 February 2027 and classes begin 8 February 2027.
