About This Course

The Diploma of Hospitality Management reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who combine broad hospitality expertise with managerial skills and sound industry knowledge to coordinate hospitality operations. Graduates work independently, take responsibility for others, and make a range of operational business decisions across the sector.

The qualification provides a pathway into departmental or small business management roles across restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. It allows for multiskilling and specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage, and gaming, and covers areas such as managing diversity, operational planning, customer service, budgeting and finance, staff rostering and leadership, regulatory compliance, and work health and safety.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification in the Training Package, Horizon Training Institute applies the following entry requirements:

Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years or older at commencement of course.

Minimum English Language Requirement (one of the following):

Certificate III in EAL / Academic IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent
Satisfactory completion of ELICOS to at least Upper Intermediate level
Completion of an Australian Year 11 qualification (or equivalent) from an English-speaking country such as Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa or the Republic of Ireland
Completion of any Australian AQF Certificate III or higher qualification
Satisfactory completion of at least one semester of study in Australia in a tertiary course (50% or more of the semester load)
Completion of a placement test devised and administered by HTI or a nominated accredited agency

Minimum Academic Qualification Requirement (one of the following):

Completion of senior high school to Australian Year 12 level or equivalent
Mature age students may also enter based on an interview with HTI staff
