The course runs for 52 weeks across two semesters. Semester 1 (21 weeks) is spent undertaking advanced practical and theory tuition delivered on campus, with 21 hours of on-campus classes per week. Semester 2 (20 weeks) is an Industry Placement semester spent entirely in the workplace, with no on-campus classes. There are also 11 weeks of holidays.
Yes. During Semester 1 you have paid work rights of up to 40 hours per fortnight (14 days). During Semester 2 (Industry Placement) you can work up to 45 hours per week. During holidays, paid work rights are unlimited. If you are offered employment for your Industry Placement, you will receive a minimum of AUD$17 per hour.
33 units must be completed in total: 14 core units and 19 elective units, consisting of 1 unit from Group A, 1 unit from Group B, 11 units from Group C, and 6 units from Group C, Group D, elsewhere in the SIT Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.
Yes, credit transfer of 18 units is available for students who have completed a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or Certificate IV in Hospitality. The credit transfer must include units from Group A, Group B, and Group C as specified by the packaging rules.
During the on-campus semester, students undertake advanced practical and theory tuition utilising industry-standard bar and restaurant equipment in ICAE's fully equipped training bar and restaurant areas.
