The total course fees are AU$48,000, which comprises AU$40,000 in tuition fees and AU$8,000 in non-tuition fees.
International students must meet one of the following English language requirements: a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent for direct entry; an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course of up to 10 weeks before the main VET course; an IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course of up to 20 weeks before the main VET course; or an Oxford Placement test score of 61 or higher. Results older than two years are not acceptable.
Students are required to have access to a laptop or computer with Windows 7 operating system or higher for self-study assignments, along with MS Office applications and an active email address. Additionally, learners are required to have a kitchen kit including a chef dress, safety boots, and a knife kit with various knives and other tools. Students can purchase the kitchen kit from the institute or from an outside supplier.
After completing the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management, students can pathway into the SIT60322 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management at other institutes, as IIT does not offer this qualification. In terms of employment, the qualification reflects knowledge and skills applicable to roles such as Departmental Manager or Small Business Manager in restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops.
Students are assessed through a variety of methods including knowledge tests (multiple choice), worksheets and written questions, practical demonstration in a training or workplace kitchen, roleplay, case studies and scenarios, and project work.
