Diploma of Hospitality Management

The Diploma of Hospitality Management (SIT50422) reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who combine a broad range of hospitality skills with managerial capability and sound industry knowledge to coordinate hospitality operations. Graduates operate independently, hold responsibility for others, and make a range of operational business decisions.

The course covers 28 units of competency spanning customer service, conflict management, budgeting and finance, legal risk and compliance, staff rostering and people leadership, work health and safety, food safety, hospitality service, business presentations, social media and e-commerce strategy, event planning, tourism product sales, and stock control.

At Spencer College the qualification is delivered over 68 weeks of classroom-based study (including up to 8 weeks of holiday breaks), combining face-to-face and online lectures/workshops with practical hospitality activities. Students must attend a minimum of 20 hours class time per week to meet Student Visa requirements, and the course includes mandatory work-based training of at least 270 hours over 36 weeks under the Work effectively in hospitality service unit; distance learning is not offered.

Entry requires applicants to be 18 years or over with basic computer skills and a minimum Year 12 education (or equivalent). International and student-visa applicants must also meet IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent), demonstrate English proficiency, or achieve Spencer College's own ACSF test level 3.
