Diploma of Hospitality Management

The hospitality industry continues to grow with opportunities to expand a career in Australia and abroad; it is an exciting and fast-paced industry with a wide range of sectors such as hotels, cruises, airlines, restaurants, bars and clubs. The Diploma of Hospitality Management (SIT50422) at Academies Australasia Polytechnic will fast-track a career by preparing students with the strong foundation of skills and practical knowledge needed to lead a service team, plus the understanding needed to thrive as a manager in a leading hotel, restaurant or other business within the hospitality and tourism industries. The course covers 28 units of competency spanning customer service, conflict management, budgeting and financial control, legal risk and compliance, rostering, leading and managing people, recruitment and staff performance, monitoring work operations, business relationships, marketing strategy, stock control, food safety and hygiene, and work health and safety systems. Tourism-facing units cover accessing product information, selling tourism products and services, preparing quotations, providing visitor information and sourcing information on the events industry. Delivery is over six terms on campus, and the qualification is also offered as a package with the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, in which students undertake work-based training of 180 hours over nine weeks. On completion, graduates have the knowledge and experience to work as hotel managers, restaurant managers, general managers of a hospitality business or senior supervisors in a related area.
