Diploma of Hospitality Management

SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management gives students the knowledge and skills to move into management roles across hotels, restaurants and other food service businesses. Delivered by Vigil International College at its Parramatta campus, the 104-week, full-time program (20 hours per week) combines classroom sessions, structured self-study and 192 hours of work-based training in an operational hospitality setting. Across its 28 units of competency, students build both cookery skills — preparing appetisers, salads, stocks, sauces, poultry, meat, seafood, cheese, cakes, pastries, breads and desserts to food-safety standards — and management skills, including enhancing customer service, managing conflict, budgeting and financial management, legal risk and compliance, staff rostering and leadership, monitoring operations, workplace health and safety, and producing business documents. Assessment is via written questions, case studies, presentations, reports and observed role plays. Applicants must be 18 or older with a current student visa; those from a non-English-speaking background need IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5) or an equivalent test result. Graduates are prepared for roles such as hotel manager, restaurant manager, food and beverage manager, conference and event manager or catering manager, with pathways into SIT60312 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or a bachelor's degree/MBA in hospitality management.
