Diploma of Hospitality Management

The SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management is delivered by Nomi College, the trading name of Australis College Pty Ltd (RTO 31518, CRICOS 03569A). Nomi College states that with these credentials individuals can enter the workforce as departmental, operational or small business managers in the hospitality sector. The eleven core units build the management side of the qualification: enhancing customer service experiences, developing and managing quality customer service practices, managing conflict, managing finances within a budget, preparing and monitoring budgets, identifying and managing legal risks and complying with law, rostering staff, leading and managing people, monitoring work operations, establishing and conducting business relationships, and implementing and monitoring work health and safety practices. Seventeen elective units add operational kitchen skills, including food safety and hygiene, working effectively as a cook, planning cooking operations, designing and costing menus, and preparing dishes ranging from appetisers and salads through to poultry, meat, seafood, buffets, cheese, cakes, pastries and desserts. Nomi College publishes 28 units in total for the qualification - 11 core units and 17 elective units. This is a 78-week full-time course. It is delivered as a blended combination of face-to-face classroom and simulated instruction, self-directed learning and final assessment, with practical classes held in fully equipped kitchens where students stand, handle kitchen tools including knives, and organise their own uniform and PPE in line with health, hygiene and safety requirements. Students are required to complete 10 weeks of work placement as part of study in this course. The College notes that graduates can also move on to Advanced Diploma qualifications and receive credit for those qualifications’ common units of competency. The course is offered at the Nomi College campuses in Sydney (Surry Hills), Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
