The Diploma of Hospitality Management has a total duration of 78 weeks, which includes holidays. The course is delivered over 60 delivery weeks, with students studying 20 hours per week in the classroom, online, and in MCIE's practice commercial kitchens.
Students are required to complete 48 mandatory service periods for the work-based training component of this course, with each service period being a minimum of 4 hours, for a total of approximately 192 hours. MCIE will organise your placement with one of their hospitality host employers. The unit SITHCCC043 – Work effectively as a cook must be commenced prior to students going into the workplace to complete these service periods.
The estimated total course cost for overseas students is $31,000, comprising a tuition fee of $28,000 and a non-tuition fee of $3,000. The non-tuition fee includes a uniform, materials, and an enrolment fee of $250. The materials fee covers a full chef uniform and a comprehensive set of professional kitchen tools including various knives, utensils, and equipment.
Candidates must meet one of the following English language proficiency requirements: an IELTS band score of 6.0 or equivalent internationally recognised exam result; satisfactory completion of an ELICOS program at advanced level from Explore English or another English Australia member English language centre; a certificate of completion equivalent to or higher than an Australian Year 12 qualification from an English-speaking country; completion of MCIE's English Placement Test with an overall score equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or above; or other tests such as TOEFL and OET will also be considered.
Assessment for this program includes written tasks, long and short answer questions, practical cookery tasks, group tasks, oral presentations, role plays, scenarios, case studies, work placement journals, logbooks, portfolios and projects. Most assessments are delivered online via aXcelerate LMS. Credit Transfer (CT) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are also available, with Credit Transfer being free of charge and RPL application fees set at $200 per hour.
