Yes, work placement is required for the unit SITHCCC043 'Work Effectively as a Cook.' The placement involves 48 service periods (192 hours), with students completing approximately 5–6 shifts per week (typically around 4 hours per shift) over 8 weeks in Term 4. Placements occur in establishments assessed for suitability that have entered into a Practical Placement Agreement or Memorandum of Understanding with ASBT. An assessor will visit and evaluate each student at least twice during the placement.
Applicants must have a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or an equivalent score from another recognised English language proficiency test. Alternatively, applicants may qualify if they have completed a minimum of two (2) years of study at an AQF Level 4 or higher in Australia.
Students who complete the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management may wish to continue their education into a range of Advanced Diploma qualifications, such as the SIT60322 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management.
The course is delivered face-to-face at ASBT's campus located at 131 Queen St – Level 8, Melbourne, VIC 3000, with practical training conducted at the training kitchen at 407 Victoria St, Abbotsford VIC 3067. The program is delivered in the classroom and training kitchen, and ASBT ensures that training meets the standards of a real workplace context. Students also receive a free Office 365 account and access to computers and laptops during classroom hours.
