The qualification is delivered over 99 weeks, including 78 weeks of training and assessment and 12 weeks of holidays. Students are required to attend face-to-face training and assessment for 20 hours per week in a classroom.
The course is delivered at two campuses: Level 1, 9 Bay Street, SOUTHPORT, Queensland 4215 (Gold Coast, QLD) and Level 6, 16-18 Wentworth St, PARRAMATTA, NSW 2150 (Sydney, NSW).
International students must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests and minimum scores include: IELTS 6.0 (or 5.5 with at least 10 weeks ELICOS, or 5.0 with at least 20 weeks ELICOS), TOEFL iBT 64 (or 46/35 with ELICOS), Cambridge C1 Advanced 169 (or 162/154 with ELICOS), PTE Academic 50 (or 42/36 with ELICOS), and OET minimum B for each test component. Note that TOEFL iBT tests taken on or after 26 July 2023 are no longer accepted for Australian student visa purposes.
This qualification offers a pathway to employment in various hospitality industry sectors including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. It supports multi-skilling and targeted skills in business plans, finance and budgeting, human resources management, marketing management, and hotel and resort management, preparing graduates for highly skilled senior management roles.
Assessment is based on the principles of competency-based training. Performance of learners is assessed on their ability to perform tasks to industry standards. A variety of assessment strategies are used, including classroom exercises, assignments, practical demonstrations, group activities, projects, and verbal and/or written questions. Students may also be assessed through a combination of continuous assessment and examinations.
