About This Course

SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management prepares highly skilled senior operators to coordinate hospitality operations across restaurants, hotels, motels, catering, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Delivered by Vocational Augment Training (VAT) across its Melbourne CBD campus and Abbotsford training kitchen over 94 weeks, the course combines face-to-face classroom delivery, practical training in a simulated workplace kitchen, and structured self-study. Students complete 28 units of competency spanning customer service, budgeting and finance, legal compliance, staff rostering and leadership, business relationships and work health and safety, allowing for multiskilling across accommodation, cookery, food and beverage, and gaming operations. Graduates are prepared for management roles including Banquet/Function Manager, Bar Manager, Cafe Manager, Club Manager, Executive Housekeeper, Front Office Manager, Restaurant Manager and Unit Manager Catering Operations. Students who have completed the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and Certificate IV in Kitchen Management may be eligible for credit transfer, and the qualification provides a pathway into further Advanced Diploma-level hospitality management studies.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Minimum age of 18 years
Satisfactory completion of Year 11 or higher in applicant's home country
English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 (Academic or General) or equivalent (TOEFL iBT 64, PTE Academic 50, Cambridge English Advanced 169, Occupational English Test B in each component); lower scores accepted with additional ELICOS study (+10 or +20 weeks)
Alternative evidence accepted: 5+ years studying in English in Australia, Canada, NZ, Ireland, South Africa, the UK or the US; completion of an Australian foundation course, senior secondary certificate, or 50%+ of a Certificate IV or higher; or citizenship/passport from the UK, US, Canada, NZ or Ireland
Applicants without accepted English-language evidence, and all onshore/offshore applicants generally, must complete VAT's Pre-Training Review and Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) literacy assessment prior to enrolment
Credit transfer available for students who have completed the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and Certificate IV in Kitchen Management
