SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who combine a broad range of hospitality skills with managerial expertise and sound industry knowledge to coordinate hospitality operations. Graduates operate independently, take responsibility for others, and make a range of operational business decisions, opening a pathway into any hospitality sector as a departmental or small-business manager across restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, coffee shops, motels, pubs and cafés. The qualification supports multiskilling and specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage, or gaming, with no occupational licensing or legislative requirements attached. Delivered at Western Hill College's Docklands campus, the course runs full-time over 93 weeks — 61 weeks of scheduled classes, 10 weeks of industry placement and work-based training (48 service periods/192 hours plus 2 service periods/8 hours), and 22 weeks of breaks. Across 28 units of competency, students develop skills in enhancing customer service, managing conflict and business relationships, budgeting and financial management, staff rostering and leadership, work health and safety, and legal risk management, alongside core cookery units. Entry is open only to students who have already completed Western Hill College's SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management — and those graduates can complete this diploma in as little as 22 weeks, making it a direct, fast-tracked step up from Certificate IV to diploma-level hospitality management.
