Diploma of Hospitality Management

The Diploma of Hospitality Management is a qualification that reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions. Aspire Academy Australia delivers the diploma full time over 93 weeks at its Melbourne City Campus, comprising 61 weeks of scheduled classes, 10 weeks of industry placement and work-based training, and 22 weeks of breaks. The course provides an in-depth understanding of hospitality operations, from financial management through to staff leadership. Completion requires 11 core units and 17 elective units covering customer service, conflict management, budgeting, legal risk and compliance, rostering, leading and managing people, monitoring work operations, business relationships, work health and safety, food safety, business operational plans and a full stream of commercial cookery units. Students complete 200 hours of vocational placement, which includes 8 hours of work-based training, across 10 weeks. Assessment may involve a combination of written assignments, project tasks and practical tasks. Students who have completed the SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management with Aspire Academy Australia may complete the diploma in 22 weeks, including 2 weeks of holidays, by studying six remaining units. The qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
