Diploma of Information Technology

The Diploma of Information Technology (ICT50220) at Academies Australasia Polytechnic builds on foundation ICT skills and prepares students to apply a wide range of higher-level technical skills in areas such as cyber security, server design, database development, object-oriented programming, dynamic web development and ICT project management. The qualification is aimed at people who need specialist skills and knowledge to administer and manage ICT support in small-to-medium enterprises across a broad range of general ICT technologies. Study covers ICT business analysis, matching ICT needs to the strategic direction of an organisation, designing, building and testing network servers, installing and upgrading operating systems, designing ICT system security controls, applying IP, ethics and privacy in ICT environments, leading and facilitating a team, managing client problems, intermediate object-oriented programming, workplace cyber security awareness, building dynamic websites and web pages, and planning and directing complex ICT projects. The course runs over three terms of on-campus classroom delivery, or four terms (36 college weeks) for students entering directly without the Certificate IV. Direct entry is possible with the ICT40120 Certificate IV in Information Technology or other relevant tertiary qualifications, or with relevant work experience; direct-entry students complete the Database Management and Cyber Security Requirements subjects from the Certificate IV. Graduates are eligible for student membership of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
