Diploma of Information Technology

The Diploma of Information Technology (ICT50220) at TasTAFE enhances a career in information technology with a focus on advanced networking, giving students the skills needed to manage complex ICT networks. The qualification provides the opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge needed to install and manage a range of networks, as well as internetworking, security and e-business integration, either as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team. Students gain transferrable skills across four core areas: in Networking they install and manage complex ICT networks, configure, verify and troubleshoot WAN links and IP services, and install, operate and troubleshoot medium enterprise switches and routers; in Cyber Security they manage network security, design and implement a security perimeter for ICT networks, and promote workplace cyber security awareness; in Web Development they build dynamic websites, manage client problems, and lead and facilitate a team; and in Server Operations they design, build and test network servers, plan, implement and test enterprise communication solutions, and install and configure advanced enterprise virtual computing environments.

TasTAFE's teachers guide students through a range of hands-on, practical and theoretical learning experiences designed to help them master advanced networking skills. Domestically the course is delivered full-time through mixed learning at the Campbell Street campus in Hobart, with tuition of $12,140 subsidised or $19,160 commercial. International students study for 52 weeks in Hobart at 20 hours per week with February and July intakes, at AUD $17,800, and the course can be taken packaged with the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Information Technology. Successful completion qualifies graduates to work as an IT Administrator or Network Support Specialist, and provides the skills needed for further study at university.
