The primary admission requirement is a Certificate IV in Cyber Security. You must also complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LLN). If you do not have a Certificate IV in Cyber Security but have other relevant qualifications or industry experience, you can apply for the Diploma, add the Certificate IV as a preference, and email your 9-digit reference number and details of your relevant skills and experience to admissions@tafesa.edu.au — a lecturer may then contact you to discuss further.
The total fees for the 12-month course vary depending on your eligibility: Fee Free TAFE is $0, Subsidised is $6,782 (approximately $3,391 per semester), Concession is $5,297 (approximately $2,648 per semester), and Full Fee is $8,811 (approximately $4,406 per semester). Fee Free TAFE places are limited and eligibility criteria applies. Government subsidised training may also be available. There are also additional incidental costs of approximately $700 for hardware such as a 1TB portable SSD, headset with microphone, and a Raspberry Pi kit with accessories.
The course is available in multiple study modes and locations including Scheduled Online (Full Time), Online (Part Time), Adelaide City campus (Full Time, on campus), and Virtual Classroom via Collaborate (Full Time and Part Time). Both full-time and part-time options are available depending on the location chosen.
Yes, TAFE SA has credit transfer agreements with universities for this qualification. For example, graduates can receive 48 credits toward a Bachelor of Information Technology (Networking and Cyber Security) at 144 total units, with guaranteed admission. Other pathways include the Bachelor of Information Technology (Software Development), Bachelor of Information Technology (Game Development), Bachelor of Information Technology, and Bachelor of Information Technology (Network and Cybersecurity Systems), each offering 36 to 48 credits.
If you are studying online, you will need a webcam and the hardware to run the class resources. TAFE SA recommends a minimum of an Intel i5 CPU or equivalent AMD, 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, and internet access. You will also be using virtual machines for learning activities and assessments, with virtual machine file sizes generally above 20GB. Additionally, you will need to purchase approximately $700 worth of equipment including a 1TB portable SSD, headset with microphone, and a Raspberry Pi kit with PIR motion sensor, camera module, temperature and humidity monitor, and fingerprint sensor.
