Professional Communication
This unit provides the opportunity for you to explore the academic and professional skills required in educational institutions and workplaces, including critical thinking, project and time management, ethics and safety, use of formal language, presenting and supporting arguments, interpreting visual data, and writing reports.
Principles of Business Information Systems
In this unit, you will develop your understanding of business information systems required by organisations in a range of different settings. You will learn about the range of the tools, techniques, and frameworks used to build information systems; the information technologies used to support information systems; artificial intelligence; security, and the ethical responsibilities of both the information system professional and the private user of information.
Introduction to Programming
This unit is designed to help you understand the important role programming languages have in developing computer software. You will develop basic computer programming skills that you will be able to use to solve real problems and gain practical experience in procedural computer programming.
Introduction to Software Design
This unit introduces you to formal software design methods through an object-oriented programming language. You will learn how to develop your problem-solving skills related to algorithm design, software documentation, software testing, and complexity analysis.
Introduction to Cyber Security
In this unit, you will start to explore the world of cyber security and what it means for an IT professional. You will learn about the importance of security and privacy policies within an organisation, and the current computer security standards and legal frameworks that guide these.
Computer Networking
In this unit, you will learn about the fundamental concepts and technologies for modern networks, including cloud computing. Prerequisite: IBIS101 Principles of Business Information Systems and IEPC101 Professional Communication.
System Design and Data Management
Core unit. Prerequisite: IBIS101 Principles of Business Information Systems and IPRG101 Introduction to Programming.

Successful completion of an SIBT Diploma will allow you to enter a bachelor's degree at Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus with eight units of credit. Pathway options include the Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology, Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology (Networking and Cloud Computing), Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology (Software Development), Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology (Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking), Bachelor of Information Systems, Bachelor of Information Systems (Network Management), Bachelor of Information Systems (Business Analytics), and Bachelor of Information Systems (Cybersecurity Management).
For 2026, the Australian course fee is A$26,700 and the international course fee is A$36,500, plus a one-off non-tuition enrolment fee of A$225.
The Diploma of Information Technology has a duration of 12 months, with intakes in March, July, and October.
You will study eight units in total, comprising seven core units and one elective unit. The core units are: Professional Communication (IEPC101), Principles of Business Information Systems (IBIS101), Introduction to Programming (IPRG101), Introduction to Software Design (ISOF102), Introduction to Cyber Security (ICYB102), Computer Networking (INET103), and System Design and Data Management (ISDM103). You then choose one elective from Introduction to Statistics (ISTA202) or Mathematics for Computing (IMTH212).
Using the Diploma as a stand-alone qualification will allow you to progress into an entry level position, such as IT help desk, computer networking technician support, database assistant or systems support. Average national graduate starting salaries include Help Desk Technician at A$77,500, Computer Networking Technician Support at A$64,349, and System Support at A$92,293.
