About This Course

The Diploma of Information Technology provides guaranteed* entry into the second year of a Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Business Information Systems or Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Wollongong (UOW). You will gain the skills to succeed in your UOW bachelor and explore various disciplines including programming, systems analysis, networks and web technologies. You will also graduate with a Higher Education Diploma to help get you into the workforce while completing your bachelor's degree. This course consists of three sessions, each lasting 14 weeks, and is offered by our pathway provider, UOW College Australia. See the course outline for more information. Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Domestic Students

Recent Secondary Education:

Minimum ATAR 35; or
4 HSC Subjects ≥65%; or
3 HSC Subjects ≥70%; or
Applicants who completed Year 12, or left school, more than 2 years ago (either with or without an ATAR or HSC) will be required to undertake a basic literacy online test to determine eligibility for this course.
Note: Year 12 HSC Mathematics Advanced ≥ 50% (or equivalent) is a mandatory Subject Requirement for applicants seeking a progressive offer from this course to the Bachelor of Technology at UOW.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) study:

You may be considered for admission to this course if you have completed a vocational education and training (VET) qualification, such as a Certificate IV. You will need to provide evidence of your qualification, which will then be converted to a selection rank and assessed to determine if you meet the minimum entry requirements.

Work and life experience:

If you have not completed a recognised qualification or your ATAR (or equivalent) does not meet the entry requirements for your selected course, UOW College may consider your relevant work and life experience. Applications for entry into a course on these grounds are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people:

UOW College encourages course applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and may offer additional support through the Aunty Linda Cruse Scholarship.
While studying at UOW College, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will also have access to support and resources through the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre.

International Students

How many intakes are available per year and when can I start?

UOW College offers three intakes each year: Autumn 2026, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026, giving you the flexibility to start your studies at different times throughout the year.
