Diploma of Interior Design

Colour your world with a career in interior design. This nationally accredited Diploma (MSF50222) helps you understand the furnishings, finishes and aesthetics that go into outstanding interiors, covering colour schemes, lighting design, the principles of design, project documentation, and producing 2D and 3D digital models. Delivered over 24 months at Tonsley in a blended format — combining scheduled on-campus classes with flexible online study — the course can be taken full-time or part-time and its wide range of subjects can be tailored to your design interests. The qualification comprises 10 core units and 17 elective units, with electives covering kitchen and bathroom spatial planning, workplace interiors, design for all ages and abilities, soft furnishings, CAD and technical drawing, interior styling, and researching furniture, artwork and materials. Entry requires completion of an LLN assessment. Domestic fees range from about $6,966 (Concession) to $37,582 (Full Fee) per semester, depending on units enrolled. Graduates go on to self-employment as interior decorators, colour consultants or interior stylists, or in-house roles with design and decoration consultancies, furniture and furnishings suppliers, or retail furnishing departments and shopfitters. The course is also offered to international students at Tonsley over two years.
