Course Overview

About This Course

The Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration gives students a foundation in the technical skills, industry knowledge and design processes that shape the spaces where we live, work and play, guided by industry professionals and setting graduates up for further study or a career in the field. Students explore design processes, materials and finishes across both residential and commercial design, gaining practical experience by working on live briefs, tackling real-world sustainability challenges, and designing for a range of clients. Hands-on projects throughout the course build a professional portfolio that helps graduates launch a career in this evolving creative industry. Learning outcomes include illustrating ideas before making them a reality, mastering industry-standard software including AutoCAD, collaborating with peers to interpret trends and generate ideas, developing technical skills to engage with complex interior sites, and gaining studio experience through real briefs. The course includes 120 hours of experience through an internship or live brief.

Torrens University has partnered with industry leaders including Vogue Australia to offer internship, mentoring and scholarship opportunities, and its interior design courses are built in collaboration with international design icon Sibella Court, founder of Sibella Court Studio. Students also receive a free Adobe Creative Cloud Pro licence for the duration of study and six months post-graduation. This AQF Level 5 course is delivered online, on campus or in blended mode across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and online, over one year full-time (three trimesters) with part-time options available, by Torrens University Australia Ltd trading as Billy Blue College of Design.

Hear From the Students

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
