Course Overview
The Diploma of Laboratory Technology is an advanced-level TAFE Queensland qualification (MSL50118) designed for people already working in a laboratory who want to progress their career, or for Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques graduates looking to upgrade their skills. The course covers a range of contemporary scientific techniques that are transferable across industries including clinical science, pathology, pharmaceuticals and forensic science. You will learn to interpret data using current scientific analysis methods, record results to industry-standard protocols, and work with the equipment and instrumentation found in a real working laboratory. Training emphasises hands-on laboratory practice over classroom theory, supported by experienced, industry-current teaching staff. Entry requires an existing Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (or equivalent), with a structured upgrade pathway available for students who already hold that qualification. Graduates are equipped to work as laboratory technicians, technical officers or analysts across biotechnology, chemical and environmental analysis, and food and beverage testing sectors. Note: this qualification no longer appears in TAFE Queensland's current course finder or its published international pricelist as of August 2026; this description has been reconstructed from the last available archived version of its official course page (captured May 2022) - see entry_requirements for further detail.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
