Diploma of Leadership and Management

The BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management at the West Australian Institute of Further Studies (WAIFS) offers a general stream and a restaurant management stream, and suits anyone already managing or adding value to the work of others. It builds the core leadership competencies contemporary managers need, from communicating with influence to leading effective workplace relationships, preparing graduates for roles such as Business Manager, Corporate Services Manager and Distribution Centre Manager, through to Public Sector Manager and Warehouse Manager.

Students complete 12 units of competency (6 core, 6 elective) covering influential communication, critical thinking, workplace relationships, operational planning, emotional intelligence and team effectiveness, with electives in diversity and inclusion, business resources, budgets and sustainability.

Delivered face-to-face on Saturdays and Sundays (8:45am–5:00pm) over 52 weeks (40 study weeks plus 12 weeks holiday) at WAIFS' Perth campus, the course runs monthly intakes and is assessed through classroom delivery, simulated environments, presentations and written work. RPL is available, and eligible domestic students may access a government-subsidised place through Jobs and Skills WA.

Graduates may progress to the BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management or other Diploma, Advanced Diploma or degree qualifications, and can apply for advanced standing at an Australian university.
