About This Course

Establish your career in business and management with this high-level dual diploma from TAFE Queensland, combining the Diploma of Business (BSB50120) and Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) into two qualifications in one program. You'll develop advanced skills and specialised knowledge to work at a strategic level across office and business management roles. The course builds expertise in team leadership and effective workplace relationships, critical thinking, communicating with influence, and using emotional intelligence to maximise team outcomes. You'll also learn how to manage business resources, budgets and financial plans, develop and monitor operational plans, and lead workplace sustainability initiatives. Some units satisfy the requirements of both diplomas simultaneously, so you graduate with two nationally recognised qualifications for the time and cost of one. Delivered on campus at South Bank and Cairns, or through a flexible online virtual classroom with weekly Zoom sessions, the course is taught by experienced industry practitioners. Graduates are equipped to move into managerial and office administration roles across a broad range of industries, and completing this diploma may also provide credit towards further university study through TAFE Queensland's degree pathway partnerships.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Domestic Students:

Personal or vocational experience in a related industry is preferred but not essential.
Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent) is recommended.
You will be invited to complete a Skills Check following your application, before enrolling. Recommended benchmark levels are 4 in English, 4 in Maths and 4 in Digital Technology.
Applicants under 17 years of age may have special enrolment conditions.

International Students:

Academic IELTS 6.0 overall (no individual band less than 5.5) or equivalent.
Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent); non-school-leavers must have relevant work experience or a qualification indicating likely course completion success.
Applicants must be a minimum of 17 years of age and turning 18 during the first year of study.
International students under 18 applying for a student visa must have adequate welfare arrangements in place, as required by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Is this course open to everyone or only specific students?

This course has been developed specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in support of equity policy for post compulsory education. Students must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to be eligible to enrol.

What are the residential blocks and is financial support available to attend them?

Courses designed specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students include intensive blocks of training on campus known as residential blocks. Funding support is available for students who need to travel away from their communities to cover necessities like travel, accommodation, and meals. To see if you're eligible, contact TAFE Queensland's student support officers. Attendance at residential blocks also requires registration with ABSTUDY.

How much does this course cost and what payment options are available?

The full fee for this course is $12,565. Payment options include upfront payment, a payment plan for those who have difficulty paying the full cost upfront, and a VET Student Loan with a cap of $12,858. Note that the Australian Government charges full fee-paying students a 20 per cent loan fee in addition to tuition fees, making the VET Student Loan a debt that must be repaid.

Can completing this diploma lead to further university study?

Yes. TAFE Queensland has university pathway options, and in many cases completing one of their diplomas may give you a full year of credit towards a degree with one of their partner universities.

How will I be assessed throughout the course?

You may be assessed in a number of ways while studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
