Common Questions
Successful completion of the Diploma of Legal Studies guarantees students a place in most undergraduate degrees at Bond University, with a possible 80 credit points credited towards their new program of study. It offers a direct pathway into the Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Business Law, Bachelor of Jurisprudence, and a number of double degrees that team law qualifications with studies in business, commerce, international relations and more.
The Diploma of Legal Studies takes 8 months (2 semesters) to complete when studying full-time. Alternatively, you can customise your subject load by starting with one or two subjects part-time and building to full-time as your confidence grows.
Bond University College offers face-to-face teaching time in small group classes, access to one-on-one tutoring, workshops, and targeted study help through the Academic Skills Centre. Students also have access to all University facilities including the gym, pool, sporting facilities, on-campus clubs and societies, Career Development Centre, Student Services, libraries, IT services, computer labs, and the multimedia learning centre. Additionally, there is access to the multi-million-dollar Legal Skills Centre equipped with paperless e-courtrooms modelled on Australia's High Court.
The diploma covers familiarity with the fundamental features of Australia's legal system, the principles of business law and contract law, contemporary legal and ethical issues confronting Australian society, communicating in groups, conflict resolution, problem solving, individual and group decision making, and an understanding of ethics, morals and cultural beliefs. In Semester 2, you'll also develop skills in legal research and reasoning, legal writing, oral communication and advocacy, and dispute resolution.
The Diploma of Legal Studies is offered with intake dates in May 2026, September 2026, January 2027, and May 2027, all delivered on-campus at Bond University's Gold Coast Campus.
