Common Questions
Successful completion of the Diploma allows you to enter the second year of a bachelor's degree at Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus with eight units of credit. Pathway options include the Bachelor of Communication (Advertising), Bachelor of Communication (Journalism), and Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations). Graduates who achieve an overall average of 50% will gain entry; students who do not achieve this will be considered on an individual basis.
You will study eight units in total — six core units and two elective units. The course can be completed over two or three sessions (12 months). Core units include Introduction to Media and Communication, Storytelling for the Media, Digital Media Data and Influence, Public Relations and Communication, Introduction to Advertising, and News and Journalism. The two elective units depend on your articulation pathway: Media Industry students choose from Intercultural Communication, National and Global Media, or Ideas and Society, while Creative Industries students choose Foundations of Creative Industries and Managing and Leading.
For 2026, Australian (domestic) course fees are A$26,000 and international course fees are A$34,600. There is also a one-off non-tuition Enrolment Fee of A$225.
The course has three intake periods per year: March, July, and October. The next intake is scheduled to start on 29 June 2026.
Upon successful completion of a Bachelor of Communication at Western Sydney University, graduates are eligible to apply for accreditation with the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) and the Media Federation of Australia (MFA). The Bachelor of Creative Industries is also accredited by PRIA and the Media Foundation of Australia (MFA).
