Students are required to complete 160 hours of mandatory work placement to complete the CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health. Students may request Australian Health and Management Institute to organise their work placement, or they may find their own. If a student finds their own placement, AHMI staff undertakes a work place suitability assessment prior to approval.
All students are required to evidence the following documentation prior to undertaking mandatory work placement: a current and satisfactory police check, and a current First Aid Certificate.
International students must meet the English Language Entry Requirements of an IELTS score of 6.0 overall (with no band less than 5.5) or an equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE) score.
Further training pathways from this qualification may lead to any of the following qualifications: CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services, CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling, and CHC50421 Diploma of Youth Work.
The course runs for 52 weeks (40 weeks delivery plus 12 weeks term break). Students study full time in a mixed mode of delivery that integrates Face to Face (2 days), Online and Self Study, totalling 20 hours per week. Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
