Common Questions
You will be required to have access to and bring to class: a portable external hard drive (500MB minimum), a 35mm DSLR camera or mirrorless camera with two interchangeable lenses that can be operated manually for shutter speed, aperture and focus (for the purpose of the qualification the Nikon D850 or D750 or a Canon 650D or 5D meet the minimum standards required), a colour checker passport for use with the camera, Black White 35mm Film ISO 400 minimum 24 frames (such as Kodak Tmax400, Kodak Tri X 400TX, Ilford HP5 plus, or Ilford Delta 400), and a 35mm film camera if you can source one. Throughout the duration of the program, you may also be required to incur printing costs up to the value of $500.
Yes. Successful completion of your Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging will give you guaranteed entry into a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Visual Arts) with the University of Canberra, delivered on TAFE Queensland's South Bank campus. In many cases, completing one of TAFE Queensland's diplomas may also give you a full year of credit towards a degree with one of their partner universities.
Fees vary by campus and eligibility. At South Bank, fees are: Concession $13,125, Subsidised $14,385, and Full Fee $18,585. At Nambour, fees are: Concession $10,065, Subsidised $11,325, and Full Fee $15,540. For international students studying at South Bank, the total course fee is $22,600. Payment options include upfront payment, a payment plan, and VET Student Loans (with a $19,290 cap) for eligible full fee-paying domestic students.
Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning. Assessments are conducted on-campus.
As part of this diploma qualification, you may have the opportunity to participate in industry-relevant work experience placements. These placements are designed to enhance practical skills and provide valuable insights into real-world professional environments. Please note: eligibility for work experience is contingent upon you demonstrating satisfactory academic progress throughout the course.
