Manage work health and safety processes
Covers legislation, codes of practices, guidelines, writing policies, WHS audits and examinations.
Develop and manage a chemical use strategy
Covers identifying and evaluating need for chemical use, risk management strategy, chemical management procedures, training needs, and monitoring implementation.
Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability
Covers developing a sustainability policy, implementing training programs and peer review.
Develop a Horticultural Production Plan
Covers developing a production plan for a nominated crop, presentation, and examination.
Manage enterprise staff requirements
Covers work roles and functions, business functions, training, Fair Work, WHS, staff performance, administration of records and industrial relations management.
Monitor and manage soils for production
Covers understanding soils, practical soil testing, soil ameliorants, interpreting soil test results, and soil health management.
Develop and review a business plan
Covers business plan proposal, developing a business plan and examination review.
Plan, implement and review a quality assurance program
Covers quality assurance definitions, standard compliances, implementing a fresh care produce standard, microbial testing, and conducting an internal mock audit based on Freshcare standards.
Diagnose plant health problems
Covers factors influencing plant health, major plant pests and diseases, disorders and weeds, and implementation of an IPM program.
Develop a plan for a hydroponic system
Covers writing and developing a plan for a hydroponic system, calculation exercises and examination.
Common Questions
The Diploma of Production Horticulture runs for 53 weeks.
Applicants must be aged 16 or above, complete a Language Literacy & Numeracy Assessment, and hold a Certificate IV in Horticulture or a related field, or have completed the equivalent of Australian Year 12 general schooling, or have 2 years of work experience in a horticultural related field.
International students must attend Classroom Face to Face delivery at 20 hours per week, while national students have the options of Classroom Face to Face, Online via Moodle, or Distance learning.
Students are required to complete ten (10) units to be awarded the Diploma of Production Horticulture, covering areas such as work health and safety, chemical use strategy, soil management, business planning, and plant health diagnosis.
