Common Questions
Students enrolled in the CHC50221 Diploma of School Age Education and Care are required to participate in a minimum of 288 hours of practical placement within an accredited early childhood education and care service. Students are eligible to participate in work placement from term 2 at the institute.
Yes, students are responsible for finding their own work placements. However, BBI has agreements with different nominated workplaces in case students need any assistance finding placements. Students may also use their current employer for work placement if they meet the mandatory criteria, subject to assessment and approval by a BBI assessor.
Should a student not demonstrate competency within a single work placement, students may be required to undergo additional work placement hours and an additional assessor visit. An additional assessor visit will incur a fee of $200.
The total duration of the course is 65 weeks (5 terms) including the breaks. BBI offers intake dates all year round, so students can apply at any time. Please refer to the Academic Calendar & Fees for detailed information.
Upon successful completion of CHC50221, graduates could seek employment in roles such as Afterschool Care Coordinator, Educator, Out of School Hours Care Worker, and Vacation Care Educator/Coordinator. Further study pathways are also available, including a Bachelor of Early Childhood or a Master of Teaching (Birth to 12 years old), depending on the university.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
