About This Course

The Diploma of Screen and Media (CUA51020) is an 18-month full-time course that trains the creative aspects and theoretical fundamentals of filmmaking, but primarily focuses on the technical and organisational skills that ensure success in the industry. QSFT's Diploma of Screen and Media course equips students with a thorough working knowledge of the film and television industry, and students comprehensively learn about the technical, organisational, creative and fundamental aspects of filmmaking in a highly supportive environment.

Students are required to roll up their sleeves and experience the practical reality of filmmaking, at the same time exploring the finer creative points of this exciting and challenging medium. The program runs over three semesters and 15 units of study, opening with five Foundation Learning units in on-set techniques and safety, media asset management, camera operations, editing essentials and sound production before branching into elective units tailored towards creative talent, technical crew or post-production training. Classes are held in the evening at QSFT's Annerley campus, and Essential Learning and Portfolio Development units run alongside them so that students graduate with a strong portfolio.

Mid-year entry is available and students may elect to study individual subjects offered in the course without completing the entire Diploma. Part-time study options, payment plans and a scholarship for school-leavers are also available. QSFT works closely with Griffith University through an articulation agreement, so participants who complete the Diploma may apply for credit transfer and reduce the time it takes to complete a bachelor degree.

General Requirements

Domestic students:

A completed application package must include the signed application form, an identification document, application fee payment confirmation and copies of all required supporting documents.
Secondary education and highest qualification completed must be declared on the application, with the academic result or certificate attached.
Evidence of English language ability — one of: IELTS with a minimum overall score of 5.5; TOEFL with a minimum overall score of 17 required for each section of skills; or evidence of two or more years of completed study at a secondary or post-secondary educational institution that primarily taught in English.
Applicants under 18 years of age will only be considered if the application is countersigned by a parent or adult guardian.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required; QSFT can set one up on the applicant's behalf.

International students:

Applications must be submitted with the application form, the application fee and a copy of an identification document.
Secondary education and highest qualification completed must be declared on the application, with the academic result or certificate attached.
Evidence of English language ability — one of: IELTS with a minimum average band score of 6.0; TOEFL iBT with a minimum total band score of 67; PTE Academic with a minimum overall band score of 47; or evidence of two or more years of completed study at a secondary or post-secondary educational institution conducted in Australia and in English (subject to final assessment).
Applicants under 18 years of age will only be considered if the application is countersigned by a parent or adult guardian.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is required before a Confirmation of Enrolment can be issued. Applicants may arrange their own cover or ask QSFT to arrange it on their behalf.
International students may only enrol from the beginning of the calendar year, through the Semester 1 intake.
