Students have access to purpose-built classrooms with individual student workstations, a dedicated prosthetics lab, a computer lab, a make-up studio, and the David Williamson theatre on the Prahran campus.
Yes. You will be expected to complete a certain number of hours of industry-related experience throughout the year. You can organise this yourself, Melbourne Polytechnic staff will help you organise it, or you can collaborate with staff to set up your work placement. Details of industry hours will be determined at the commencement of the course. You will also have opportunities to collaborate with outside student groups producing theatre, film, and television productions.
The government subsidised tuition fee is $15,650, with a maximum annual amenities fee of $260, making the total $15,910. The non-subsidised tuition fee is $20,950, with a maximum annual amenities fee of $260, making the total $21,210. Displayed course fees are indicative only and subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment.
Assessment involves a combination of observation, written assignments and project work, with small and large scale events-based learning. The course is designed to engage students in hands-on practical learning wherever possible, delivered on campus, online or in the related industry where possible. Employability skills — including communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self-management, and learning and technology — will also form part of the assessment.
Graduates can pursue careers as an Air Brusher, Bridal Make-up Artist, Session Hair Stylist, Hair and Wig Stylist, Make-up Artist, Period Hair Stylist, Prosthetics Artist, Specialist Make-up Effects Artist for film and television, Editorial/Runway Makeup Artist, Wig Stylist, or work in the Makeup Retail sector. Graduates are also equipped to set up their own business or work backstage in makeup and wig maintenance for theatre or opera.
