About This Course

This qualification provides the knowledge and skills for graduates to coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program in an organisation. It reflects the role of practitioners who apply a substantial knowledge base and well-developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. Students, currently employed, are encouraged to bring their current employer's WHS policies and procedures (with their employer's permission) to use in their course work. This material must be reviewed prior to use by the Institute's Trainer/Assessor. For students who are unable to bring adequate policies and procedures, the Institute will provide a practice set of documents.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Minimum Age:

18 years or older at commencement of course

Minimum English Language Requirement (one of the following):

Certificate III in EAL / IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent
Satisfactorily completed ELICOS at to at least Upper Intermediate level
Completed equivalent of Australian Year 11 qualification from any of the English speaking countries such as Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland
Completion of any Australian AQF Certificate III or higher qualification
Satisfactorily completion of at least one semester of study in Australia in a tertiary course (satisfactorily for this purpose would mean that the applicant has completed 50% or more of the semester load)
Completed a Placement Test devised and administered by Rhodes College or a nominated accredited agency

Minimum Academic Qualification (one of the following):

Completion of senior high school to the Australian Year 12 or equivalent
Mature age students can also enter based on an interview with Rhodes College staff

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge to potentially gain employment as a WHS Manager, WHS Practitioner, or Senior WHS Officer. These graduates will have sufficient knowledge to collaboratively investigate incidents, conduct risk analysis, train staff and oversee the implementation of WHS policies, practices and procedures.

The tuition fee for the Diploma of Work Health and Safety (BSB51319) is $9,500, with an additional Resource Material Fee of $499 for all prescribed resource materials.

How is the course delivered for international students?

For international students, 20 hours of classroom-based training and 20 hours per week of self-study is required.
