About This Course

The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics) is a postgraduate coursework degree that will help you develop the skills and acquire the knowledge essential for specialisation in orthodontics through a comprehensive curriculum of theoretical and clinical studies. Our course is primarily clinically based with theoretical sessions, complemented by a research component. Over three years you will complete a prescribed set of core units in clinical dentistry and orthodontics, culminating in the submission of a research treatise. Graduates from our program are eligible to apply for registration with the Dental Board of Australia as specialist in orthodontics. Our course has a mandatory professional practice work component where subject to contract with the Local Health District (LHD), you may be paid for some clinical sessions (conditions apply), once enrolled in the course.

Requirements

English Language Declaration Form must be uploaded to your application (reflecting minimum test requirements for results obtained both before and from 23 April 2026)
For domestic applicants: a copy of current AHPRA Dental Registration certificate
For international applicants: evidence of current overseas practicing Dental Registration certificate which shows the expiry date; if issued in a language other than English, provide the original together with an official English translation
A criminal record check before being considered for admissions and undertaking a clinical placement in a NSW Department of Health Facility; for international candidates, a Criminal Record Check from your own country at the time of application (with official English translation if not in English)
Current detailed Resumé outlining evidence of position as a Dentist, employment history and relevant experience
Contact details of two work-related referees including their name, position, telephone and e-mail address
Proof of identity: a valid passport (biodata page); alternatively, an Australian birth certificate or Australian or New Zealand citizenship certificate for domestic students
Current or final official academic transcripts and their official English translation copy if the original transcripts were issued in a language other than English
Final testamur or proof of completion of your qualification and its official English translation copy if it was issued in a language other than English
Proof of English proficiency (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL results) where required
English language proficiency (tests taken on or after 23 April 2026): IELTS Academic minimum overall 7 and minimum 7 in each component; OR PTE Academic minimum overall 72, with 72 listening, 72 reading, 72 writing, 76 speaking; OR TOEFL iBT minimum total 96, with 23 listening, 23 reading, 25 writing, 24 speaking
English language proficiency (tests taken on or prior to 22 April 2026): IELTS Academic minimum overall 7 and minimum 7 in each component; OR PTE Academic minimum overall 72 and minimum 72 in each of the four communicative skills; OR TOEFL iBT minimum total 96, with 24 listening, 24 reading, 25 writing, 23 speaking
English language proficiency tests must be completed within two years of the date on which you will commence your course
For courses with mandatory prerequisites, official detailed unit outlines for all prerequisite units in your studies which you believe will meet the prerequisite requirements
