The program is primarily clinical based with didactic sessions, complemented by a research project in periodontal surgery or practice under the supervision of an academic staff member. The course also has a mandatory professional practice work component.
Yes, subject to contract with the Local Health District (LHD), you may be paid for some clinical sessions (conditions apply), once enrolled in the course.

Applications open on 1 September, two years prior to the commencement year, and close on 31 May 2026 for the 2027 intake. Separate deadlines apply for scholarships.
Applicants must demonstrate a high level of English proficiency as required by the Australian Dental Board. For tests taken on or after 23 April 2026, the minimum requirements are: IELTS Academic overall 7 with 7 in each component; or PTE Academic overall 72 with minimum scores of 72 (listening), 72 (reading), 72 (writing), and 76 (speaking); or TOEFL iBT total 96 with minimum 23 (listening), 23 (reading), 25 (writing), and 24 (speaking). Alternatively, applicants may declare English as their primary language if they meet certain educational criteria. All English language proficiency tests must be completed within two years of the course commencement date.
