About This Course

The program will be directed by Associate Professor Dale Howes and presented by specialist clinicians and researchers. This course will be based primarily at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health, with some sessions at the Sydney Dental Hospital. The program is primarily clinical based with blocks of seminars and preclinical sessions. You will also be required to complete a research project in the field of prosthodontics or restorative dentistry, under the supervision of an academic staff member. This course has a mandatory professional practice work component where subject to contract with the Local Health District (LHD), you may be paid for some clinical sessions (conditions apply), once enrolled in the course.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

English Language Declaration Form must be uploaded with your application (reflecting minimum test requirements for results obtained both before and from 23 April 2026)
A copy of current AHPRA Dental Registration certificate for domestic applicants; Evidence of current overseas practicing Dental registration certificate which shows the expiry date for international applicants (if issued in a language other than English, provide the original together with an official English translation)
A criminal record check before you are considered for admissions and undertake a clinical placement in a NSW Department of Health Facility; for international candidates, a Criminal Record Check from your own country at the time of application (if issued in a language other than English, provide the original together with an official English translation)
Current detailed Resumé outlining evidence of position as a Dentist employment history and relevant experience
Contact details of two work related referees including their name, position, telephone and e-mail address
Proof of identity: a valid passport (biodata page); alternatively, an Australian birth certificate or Australian or New Zealand citizenship certificate for domestic students
Current or final official academic transcripts and their official English translation copy if the original transcripts were issued in a language other than English
Final testamur or proof of completion of your qualification and its official English translation copy if it was issued in a language other than English
Proof of English proficiency (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL results) where required:
- IELTS (academic module): minimum overall score of 7 and minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
- PTE Academic: minimum overall score of 72 and minimum scores of 72 (listening), 72 (reading), 72 (writing), 76 (speaking) for tests taken on or after 23 April 2026; or minimum score of 72 in each of the four communicative skills for tests taken on or prior to 22 April 2026
- TOEFL iBT: minimum total score of 96 with minimum section scores varying depending on test date
English language proficiency tests must be completed within two years of the date on which you will commence your course

Applications for the 2027 intake close on 4 May 2026. Applications open on 1 September, two years prior to the commencement year. Separate deadlines apply for scholarships.
