The program spans 4 years full-time. Year 1 focuses on fundamental concepts of medical sciences, clinical, professional and procedural skills, and the role of the doctor. Year 2 involves learning in clinical practice settings, developing knowledge and skills for medical practice, focusing on symptomatology of common conditions and clinical reasoning. Year 3 sees students immersed in hospital and community settings, with structured teaching and clinical learning in the workplace. The final semester is a dedicated Transition to Practice term where students are active pre-intern members of a clinical team.
The approximate yearly cost of full-time tuition (16 units) for international students is AUD $104,120 for 2026. Students are also charged a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) in addition to course fees. Additional costs include a First Aid Certificate (approximately $130 renewed every 3 years), a police check for criminal history ($45), and costs for vaccinations and serology.

School leavers can enter through the provisional entry pathway, which requires an adjusted ATAR of 95 (or equivalent), Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) English, a competitive UCAT ANZ aggregate score, and attendance at a multiple mini-interview (MMI). If a provisional entry offer is received, students must also complete their first degree at UQ within the minimum specified time, achieve a GPA of 5.0 on a 7-point scale, and complete the MD subject prerequisite courses before progressing to the MD.
Yes, domestic places in the Doctor of Medicine are Commonwealth supported, provided students meet all Commonwealth supported place eligibility requirements. CSPs are offered in two categories: Bonded Medical Program (BMP) places, which make up 28.5% of all CSP offers and require a commitment to work in eligible regional, rural, and remote areas for a specified period after completion; and non-bonded medical places, which make up approximately 71.5% of all CSP offers. Commonwealth supported students may also be eligible for HECS-HELP.
