Doctor of Medicine

The Doctor of Medicine is the final three years of Adelaide University's integrated six-year medical program. It follows the Bachelor of Medical Studies, which must be completed at Adelaide University to enter this masters-level degree.
Building on those foundations, the Doctor of Medicine focuses on developing advanced clinical and research skills. You enhance your clinical skills through diverse placements in primary care, hospitals and outreach clinics, with rotations across general medicine, rural medicine, surgery, mental health, paediatrics, obstetrics and geriatrics, and a full-year rural placement option available.
Across the six-year program the emphasis is on scenario-based learning, evidence-based decision-making and professional practice, so graduates can practise safely and effectively as medical practitioners.
Research and scholarship skills are developed extensively through expert-guided projects, and teaching uses advanced facilities with leading health simulation technology.
Study takes place in Adelaide BioMed City, the heart of South Australia's education, research and clinical care precinct, next to the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
The program is 144 units of core courses, delivered full time only over three years at the Adelaide City Campus, and draws on more than 135 years of health education and research at the university.
