Both components are expected to be an original contribution to the candidate's field of creative research.
Doctor of Musical Arts students complete 24 credit points of coursework. 12 credit points are mandatory — MCGY5111 Creative Work Seminar 1 and MCGY5112 Creative Work Seminar 2 — and 12 credit points are elective from the University pool of units, which includes specialist analytical methods, professional development units and discipline-specific subjects relevant for research students.
Prospective students must first lodge an Expression of Interest notice, uploading a preliminary research proposal of at least 1500–2000 words, a one-page CV, and supplementary evidence of expertise (e.g. music scores, links to past performances, samples of academic writing). After that, you follow the applying for admission instructions. Applications are open all year round, and you should apply at least 6 weeks prior to your intended start date.
There is no separate tuition fee cost for the coursework units of study you will undertake — it is part of the tuition fee for the course. However, additional non-tuition course costs vary depending on the units of study.
The Doctor of Musical Arts covers innovative and research-based performance, conducting, or composition, with research development supported by coursework normally taken during the first full year of candidature.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
