Common Questions
The main part of your work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s). At least two-thirds of the study program must involve research, although some coursework units may be required. Your thesis must be a substantial original contribution to knowledge or understanding of a field and must demonstrate your capacity to conceive, design and complete independent research.
Applicants are required to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training and ability to pursue the proposed research course. Generally, this may be a master degree or bachelor degree with first or upper second class honours. For English proficiency, applicants must achieve a minimum IELTS Academic overall band score of 6.5, with no component below 6.5 in Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening.
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP): up to four years of full-time equivalent study for Doctoral or PhD programs.
Throughout your studies, Curtin's faculties will provide you with access to equipment and resources to support your research, and financial assistance to attend appropriate local and international conferences. You will also be guided by a supervisor and associate supervisor(s) throughout the thesis process.
Upon completion, graduates will be able to demonstrate expert understanding of theoretical knowledge and reflect critically on that knowledge and their practice, think critically and generate original knowledge, apply expert creative, technical and professional skills, present a complex investigation of originality for external examination against international standards, communicate complex research concepts to peers and the national and international research community, and design, implement, analyse, theorise and communicate research that makes a significant and original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
