There are two rounds: the International Round opens 1 July 2025 and closes 31 August 2025, with offers from 20 October 2025; the Domestic Round (including UWA international students) opens 1 September 2025 and closes 31 October 2025, with offers from 8 December 2025. Both rounds have a commencement window of 2 February – 31 March 2026.
Yes. You must identify and secure an academic supervisor before submitting your application. You should contact potential supervisors directly with your CV, a brief outline of research, and academic transcripts. In your application, you must provide evidence (e.g., email) that your nominated academic supervisor has agreed to supervise you — applications without this evidence will not be considered.
Scholarships are generally awarded to applicants who intend to enrol as full-time students based on a campus of UWA. Approval may be given for a part-time award for domestic students only who can demonstrate compelling reasons, such as a medical condition or primary care commitments, which would prevent full-time study. Work is not considered a compelling reason for a part-time award.
Scholarships are awarded by the UWA HDR Scholarships Committee based on academic achievement; research potential as evidenced by relevant research experience, research output, other research-related achievements and publications; and availability of appropriate supervisors, research facilities, equipment, funding and resources. Priority may be given to applicants who intend to enrol in an HDR for the first time and have not previously completed a Research Doctorate or equivalent, or previously held an Australian Government funded Postgraduate Research Award.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
