Common Questions
A higher degree by research differs from other postgraduate degrees in that at least two-thirds of the study program must involve research. Although some coursework units may be required, the main part of your work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s).
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP): up to four years of full-time equivalent study for Doctoral or PhD programs.
Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. For this course, the IELTS Academic requirements are: Writing 6.0, Speaking 6.0, Reading 6.0, Listening 6.0, and an Overall band score of 6.5. You may also demonstrate English proficiency using other approved tests and qualifications.
Throughout your studies, Curtin's faculties will provide you with access to equipment and resources to support your research, and financial assistance to attend appropriate local and international conferences. You will also be guided by a supervisor and associate supervisor(s) throughout the thesis process.
Applicants are required to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training and ability to pursue the proposed research course. Generally, this may be a master degree or bachelor degree with first or upper second class honours. Detailed information can be found in Section 3.2.1 of the HDR admission policy.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
