Common Questions
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP), covering up to four years of full-time equivalent study for Doctoral or PhD programs. International students should refer to the information for international students section for fee details.
The main part of your work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s). A higher degree by research requires that at least two-thirds of the study program must involve research, although some coursework units may be required.
Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. For the Doctor of Philosophy (Health Sciences), applicants must achieve an IELTS Academic overall band score of 6.5, with no individual band score (Writing, Speaking, Reading, or Listening) below 6.5. English proficiency may also be demonstrated using other approved tests and qualifications.
Applicants are required to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training and ability to pursue the proposed research course. Generally, this may be a master degree or a bachelor degree with first or upper second class honours. Detailed information is available in Section 3.2.1 of the HDR admission policy.
Throughout your studies, Curtin's faculties will provide you with access to equipment and resources to support your research, as well as financial assistance to attend appropriate local and international conferences. Curtin is also widely recognised for applied research with strong partnerships with industry, business and government, ensuring graduates enjoy outstanding opportunities to become innovators in their fields.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
