Common Questions
No. The MCP/PhD double degree is only available to domestic applicants, meaning Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian Permanent resident visa holders, Australian Permanent humanitarian visa holders, or Pacific Engagement Visa holders.
Applicants must submit two separate online applications — one for MCP (MACLIPSY1000) and one for PhD (RPPHDSCI4000). You must upload all relevant supporting documents to both applications, as they are assessed independently. Do not submit an application for standalone PhD (RPPHDSCI6000). Applications open Friday 1 August 2025 and close 9am, Monday 27 October 2025 for 2026 admission.
The program is structured over five years. In Year 1, students enrol full time in MCP coursework units. In Years 2 and 3, students complete MCP coursework units and commence PhD research. In Years 4 and 5, students are enrolled full time in the PhD. Upon completion of all requirements for both degrees, students graduate with an MCP/PhD award.
All MCP/PhD applicants must provide two academic references via the Psychology Reference System. Applicants must register with the Psychology Reference System to nominate their two referees online. Referees are then prompted to complete an online reference, which applicants must share with the University of Sydney via the Psychology Reference System. Applicants who do not correctly provide completed references by the application closing date will not be considered.
Yes, scholarships are available. Every year, the University of Sydney provides hundreds of scholarships, awards and prizes to students of all backgrounds and levels, including the Tanya Sackville Memorial Scholarship, postgraduate coursework scholarships, and postgraduate research scholarships. Separate deadlines apply for scholarship applications.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
